Want To Model? Start By Getting 10,000 Followers

According to Catherine McGill of Viviene Models, brands are increasingly looking at models’ social media influence as a part of their casting process. Some brands in Australia are requiring their models to have a minimum of 10,000 followers in order to be considered for gigs. Marc Jacobs is one of the leaders in using social media as a part of their casting process and even uses platforms like Instagram to discover new models.

This change in the industry is likely due to the influence of some of fashion’s newest IT girls like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevinge who have 3.3m, 25.8m and 12.2m followers respectively.
